2003 Dufour 40
Description:
A fast, yet easy to handle sailboat that performs equally well as a regatta racer or long distance cruiser. Built in 2003 for 2004 delivery, the lines of this beauty, are immediately evident as the renowned nautical design of Umberto Felci.
Her cockpit as well as below deck are both spacious, comfortable and easy to handle for two. This Dufour yacht is fully equipped with sails for cruising + sails for regattas. All lines are led aft to the helm position to trim both main and genoa in a snap.
While most Dufour performance models on the market have been sailed in saltwater, this 2003 fresh water Dufour 40P has had only two owners and both on the freshwater Great Lakes. Easily accessible below deck (without hitting your head!), the two cabin, one head configuration interior demonstrates the clever appointments these designers had in mind. The 2-cabin version with V and quarter, single head affords privacy to both berths and a 6' 4" ceiling gives even the tallest sailor some "space" while traversing below deck.
A 6’11” lead "real keel" keeps her straight for the mark. With a 143% genoa, the DuFour tracks excellent with helm movements of less than an inch. The 5 year old Main and genoa are Kevlar. They are in crisp condition with a couple of small Dacron spreader wear guards placed at spreaders and pulpit. Sail-drive and a 3-blade feathering Max-Prop. Sail-drive was lightly sanded and finished with 4 coats of epoxy. Magnesium protective anodes and a new rubber fairing recently installed.
WINTER IS COMING has been raced competitively with winning results, yet little wear and tear. The large and deep elliptical rudder digs exceptionally well. Not a scratch on the hull or the bottom, her hull and deck are in good condition. Rudder is dry and maintained. Teak in the cockpit and sole are in good condition. The Volvo Penta D2-55 diesel engine has only 750 hours with oil changes performed religiously every fall. Two new LiFePo4 house batteries won't leave you high and dry.
The appointments below deck speak for themselves. Beautiful cabin sole and companionway ladder and all cabinetry are in excellent condition. Frigo-boat (Danfoss compressor) refrigeration and a propane stove with oven is gimbaled for cooking even whilst under sail. You'll find loads of storage in the galley, plus two hanging lockers fore and aft with a dozen cabinets and another ten drawers. All the cushions are in nice condition wit no mold or stains. The 40P's woodworking is superb. Both the 12V and 120VAC panels work for fans, heaters, blow dryers, etc. The original Dufour dishes have not been used and will stay aboard for the next galley chef! Dining below deck is convenient and the saloon can host 5 comfortably. The outside cockpit table is also accommodating for above deck cocktail hour. Instruments are all Raymarine ST60 series and fully functional. Dual side wind and speed/depth are on both port and starboard binnacle faces. Chart plotter and radar are by Lowrance 9” HDS display. Chart chip for North America included. Raymarine ST5000 "below decks" rotary drive Autopilot located behind panel.
NO evidence of leaks, rot, or damage inside this boat. There is no crazing on the windows...clear view ...clear horizon. Come see her on the hard in Racine Wi and Ferdinand (a True Shipwright) will be able to answer any and all of your questions honestly and straightforward.
